your knob is partially cracked where the control shaft enters it=to remove it you have to get behind the knob and insert to release the tension on the shaft=easiest way being it is broken already is to pick a new one from ford -or maybe i saw them in the HELP line at a local parts chain--any get a new one and then finish breaking off your old one and put the new one on

Taurus A/C - Heater control Knob?
Hi, I have 1998 Ford Taurus. The knob that controls the A/C and Heater does not work properly. It has to be rotated back and forth few times until it changes from the ';off'; position to ';A/C'; position. Is this a problem with the knob or the module behind the knob? How do I take the knob out ? ThanksTaurus A/C - Heater control Knob?
