What effect will today's Supreme Court gun-control ruling (D.C. v. Heller) have on other gun-control laws?

Are they history?

Assuming that the court's makeup doesn't change in the near future. What effect will today's Supreme Court gun-control ruling (D.C. v. Heller) have on other gun-control laws?
Given the history of the SCOTUS, the liklihood of the court hearing another 2nd Amendment case like this any time in the near furture ( and by near, I mean pretty much my lifetime...and I'm 40) are next to nil.

While the gun control laws that are on the books from other places are not automatically recinded per se, what the decision handed down today effectively does is set precident from the highest court that can be used to prop up lawsuits challenging handgun and firearms bans in other places in the country. What effect will today's Supreme Court gun-control ruling (D.C. v. Heller) have on other gun-control laws?
Besides a group of people much smarter than me affirming that the Second Amendment means exactly what it says, ';... the right of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.';, there is also the hope that those in power (who have been mislead into believing that banning a piece of metal will control the mind of a criminal) might soon decide that laws aimed at controlling criminal activity is a far simpler way to reduce crime.

83% of all violent crime is committed by repeat offenders. Putting violent criminals in prison for LONG sentences will go a long way toward reducing violent crime. It will do more to reduce violent crime than stripping me of the ability to defend myself for a violent criminal.
I certainly hope all gun control laws are history. 20,000+ gun laws in this country and not a single one of them has done anything to prevent a crime or murder. If anything these laws encourage crime and murder by disarming the innocent and making it easier for the criminal element to victimize them.
The court's makeup will have no bearing.

The affect will be that cities that seek an absolute ban on handguns will have such legislation struck down.
A lasting assurance that we the people have the right to keep and bear arms without having to to worry about some air-headed windbag trying to take them away.
