I'd have to say all of the above, but d. I don't see how control of the trade routes would have destroyed culture and reduced the need for slave labor. It would have, of course improved the economy of the times. The small farmer would have benefited by having better access to markets. It would have reduced unemployment by requiring workers to maintain the roads. Of course it would have brought money into city coffers as well as other riches.How did conquests and control of trade routes benefit Rome by about 133 B.C.?
C. The wealth that accrued in Rome inspired people from around the then known world to seek Roman citizenship. Eventually all free persons in the Empire were declared citizens of Rome, but only the residents got the social security payments (corn dole) that previous conquests made possible.
