you need a speed control that is rated for your battery 7.2, 9.8 lipo also the current 3000 mAh 4800 ETC... just watch for those if it is rated higher your OK ( you have a 1000 mAh battery 7.2 volt you see a ESC rated for 1500 mAh at 7.2 volt your fine if it is rated 500 mAh 4.8 volts you'll burn it up. also the same for lipos it needs to be rated for lipos) and if it is brushless or brushed. brushless three wires brushed two wires to the motor. not just any ESC will work.
Hope this helps
DanCan you use any Electronic Speed Control on an R/C Car?
If I were you, I would throw away the old speed control and buy a Novak 5800 brushless system. TOTALLY worth the $150 and will put you at speeds faster than most nitros out there.
Got to love that stampede!
Any electronic speed control works fine. Its will worth doing as they are so much more accurate. It made a heap of difference to my rc car.
