I signed a lease on a studio in Fl that has no thermastat , I have no way to control A/C or heat ?

this is a studio attached to the landlords home, has a separate entrance. the A/C and heat are controlled by landlord, so when she is gone during the day she turns it off, is this legal ?I signed a lease on a studio in Fl that has no thermastat , I have no way to control A/C or heat ?
Just buy yourself portables so that you can control the temp in your unit.

It is not legal to let you get below 55 inside in the winter, I am not sure of the high temp, it would be around 85 though.I signed a lease on a studio in Fl that has no thermastat , I have no way to control A/C or heat ?
I live in Texas but I believe that basic laws still prevail. The landlord is responsible for maintaining your place in a safe and healthy environment. Basically they must fix anything that is not healthy. If you have a child this may be a matter for the public health department but if it is just you and it isn't creating a health hazard then you may be out of luck.

As in Texas we have very nice weather 9 months out of the year but I would not want to do without a/c or heat any time of the year. You should talk to your landlord and explain that you need her to leave the utilities on for you while she is gone. She is making extra income to pay for those extra utilities and since they are obviously included in the rent you can demand that she leave them on for you.

Please be very nice about talking to her though. It's always best to be as business professional as possible. Find a time when she is not busy and tell her that your utilities are included in the rent and that you want her to leave them on for you during the day. She may have a programmable thermostat that automatically turns the temperature up or down at certain times and she may have just forgot to reset it. Give her a chance to make the changes. Then if she doesn't she will have breached the contract and you can move...or get fans and heaters that will really make her bill go up! Yikes!!!
Probably not. Get a thermometer and then tell her that you need air/heat during the day. It may be that you simply haven't found the thermostat and she may be able to help you there. Otherwise, she may not know you spend the day there. In any case, tell her you need the temp maintained at whatever and that it goes up to whatever your thermometer says and that is simply not going to work out.
There are certain standards set by every state about what temperature must be maintained in rental apartments. Check your lease to see if it says anything about heat and A/C, and check with a local tenant's rights organization to see what your landlord is required by law to provide.

Can you just buy a window air conditioner unit?
These type of rental situation never work out in the end, its sounds like your landlord pays all the utilities, since its most likely an illegal rental, as such the landlord is going to try and regulate the amount of electricity you use. If the landlord is paying the electricity they will not allow you a window unit
Buy a window unit and a couple space heaters. But for safety reasons don't leave them on when you are away.

There are no laws anywhere requiring a/c and the minimum cold temperatures in places that regulate them are seldom, if ever, approached in FL (I think NYC is 55 degrees). The laws don't govern ';comfort,'; they regulate ';safety.';
I guess they pay the bill, you signed a lease, your pretty much screwed...........except you could test the water by complaining, and saying youll get your own heat an air.........this could turn the table real fast.......you have the lease, they pay the bill...........the only down side, if it says you cant do this in the lease............
Yes it legal as long as she keeps the apartment at a temperature required by state law.
You signed the lease. Did it say anything about having your own thermostat? If not, you are stuck.
