How do I add temperature control to my A/C?

The house I'm about to rent is great except that the swamp cooler has an older control switch that is not associated with a thermostat. The control knob has settings for low and high air and low/high pump. The unit is either on or off so that means a lot of wasted electricity and babysitting of the unit. Is there a simple way to install a thermostat or would you need to replace the unit? The house is a rental so I'm not willing to incur a ton of costHow do I add temperature control to my A/C?
i would suggest setting both controls on low . then you can change them as the conditions change to keep you comfortable. How do I add temperature control to my A/C?
Swamp coolers are not A/C. All they do is alter the humidity of the air. With A/C one is removing not only moisture to some extent, but heat as well. They are two different animals and trying to make them one is largely a waste of time.
